APA-Maseru (Lesotho) The Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) has embarked on a fact-finding mission to learn the reasons behind the national side’s poor performance in the ongoing joint 2010 FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers, APA learnt here on Thursday.

The Likuena (Crocodiles) are languishing at the bottom of Group 5 in the qualifiers. Other teams in the group are Libya (12 points), followed by Gabon and Ghana, both sharing nine points, and Lesotho in fourth spot with no points.

The latest soul-searching for the team follows the Crocodiles’ poor performance against Gabon. The hosts lost 3-0 in a game played at Seisa Ramabolu Stadium in Bloemfontein, South Africa last Sunday.

Newly-elected LEFA technical Director of coaches, Baba Malephane, called for an urgent meeting with technical staff from all national sporting teams as well as referees to find out what could be the source of the problem with the national football team.

If possible, he said, the grouping will also meet the players’ representatives to find out what is it that they need to do to have a fighting spirit and commitment in their play, which he said was missing in their clash against the Panthers of Gabon.

Crocodiles are left with a tricky encounter against Ghana on October 12 at Kumasi, Ghana to wrap up the qualifying campaign.

Libyan football supporters had every right to feel elated as the national football team won its third World Cup qualifier on the trot, convincingly beating Lesotho at the June 11 Stadium in Tripoli by 4-0 Friday night.

This victory has catapulted Libya to the top of the Group 5 as they take command of the group’s World Cup 2010 and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, three points ahead of Ghana who still have to play their game at the Ohene-Djan Stadium in Accra against Gabon on Sunday.
